Description- The foundation of this piece was created by painting layers of encaustic medium, pan pastels and gold leaf to create dimension and depth. A mark making tool was then used to create incised cross hatch lines that were filled with black oil stick medium.

Inspiration- The woven cardboard mat created in a previous piece inspired me to use this technique again to weave a small mat that would complement but not compete with the detailed substrate. I painted the substrate with complimentary layers of green, blue and gold pan pastel, fused with a layer of clear encaustic medium. The symmetry of the woven cardboard inspired my decision to incise large and small vertical and horizontal lines which I enhanced by rubbing the surface with black oil stick, removing the excess then adding gold leaf to create interest. I'm very pleased with the results
